Birding in India - Siberian Stonechat

The Siberian Stonechat is a resident and a winter visitor to India. During our visit to Nameri and Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuaries, we saw many of them, but found it was quite challenging to get close and photograph them.

But we did get lucky on a couple of occasions. Once we found a male in breeding plummage on the river bank in Nameri Wildlife Sanctuary. Then again while in Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary , during one of the safaris we saw a beautiful female who came and sat on a perch close to our Jeep. [...]

Water for Birds..

This was an initiative I participated since last two years, to help the birds get some water in the scorching sun many people in densly populated urban areas of the city have started keeping bowls, glasses of water on their rooftops, galleries and even outside windows to help feed the birds, I have seen this was well received and my rooftop have many flying visitors chirping away ...wish to join the cause?

The things around

Often we think that the "good pictures" can be taken only at some exotic place ...
I used to be a victim of that thought too, till this time, I went around my home town back in Bihar, and found that there was so much to click there too!
To start off with.. there is a king's palace, and this mosque was a part of the royal campus and was exclusive for the members of the royal family!

Thru' the Lens

Away from the Crowd

I was in Kannur last week for Rajesh's wedding (see ' Birthday Bash ') and headed to Parassinikkadavu snake park for a quick visit. It was almost 5.30 by the time we reached there and the shadows were lengthening. Snakes and animals kept in the cages were almost impossible to shoot at that light and I quickly headed to the center of the park, which has a well where a lot of snakes (mainly rat snakes) are kept:

Even though the top portion of the well was open, the light inside was very low. Also, I needed [...]

The perfect getaway

What wouldn't I give to own this place.  Staying here was an absolute delight. Never before have I had to deal with winds that relentlessly tried to blow me down and yet found the need to stand tall. Never before have I slept in a night so cold, away from the comfort of my air conditioned room, and yet felt that I belonged. Never before have I been so scared of the wild animals that might have been eyeing us from afar and yet felt safer than ever. Here, I felt every emotion that would otherwise come to [...]

Pitcher Plant, Nepenthes khasiana

We all know that animals depend on plants for their food. But have you ever heard of plants that feed on animals? Yes, that’s what Pitcher plants are all about! These plants feed largely on small animals like insects, scorpions and at times even mice!

Most pitcher plants are climbers with some of their leaves modified into pitchers. A pitcher is a container with a hood over it. The hood, the rim and the inner wall of the pitcher are often attractively coloured. Even as the pitcher is formed, it contains [...]
